We are looking for an enthusiastic Senior Research Nurse to join our supportive and dedicated Head and Neck Research team at our Chelsea site. The Head and Neck Unit at The Royal Marsden is one of the largest of its kind in Europe and is one of the largest research teams within the trust. It is recognised worldwide for its strength in diagnosing and treating cancers of the head and neck. The Royal Marsden has now also become the world's first International Centre for Recurrent Head & Neck Cancer (IReC). IReC has an ambitious aim to create a centre of excellence and set international standards in the curative treatment, palliation, and supportive care of recurrent head and neck cancers.The successful applicant will work as part of the team, managing a portfolio of head and neck oncology studies, and contributing to the pioneering research delivered from this unit. They will also fulfil the role of keyworker for patients enrolled on clinical trials, ensuring optimal communication and high standards of patient care in accordance with the principles of GCP.Candidates will be required to commence in post, week commencing 06/10/2025 to ensure a handover period.Main duties of the jobThe experienced research nurse works as a self-directed practitioner, with a key role to play in the organisation and management of clinical trials within the Trust. These trials may be related to anti-cancer treatment (e.g. chemotherapy, radiotherapy, biological therapy, gene therapy or surgery), symptom management or some other aspect of cancer care, such as screening. Central to the role are the recruitment, education and monitoring of patients entering a clinical trial. Working closely with the principal investigator and members of the multidisciplinary team, they will support patients who choose to participate in clinical trials by providing advice and information and acting as the patients' advocate. They will take responsibility for the co-ordination and management of a clinical research portfolio, collaborating with key personnel to ensure continued care and support for patients involved in clinical trials. The post holder will support more junior research nurses, assisting them to develop their clinical research skills thorough education and training. Further responsibility will include monitoring and raising the standard of nursing input within the team.The opportunity to undertake personal research projects or further study, in consultation with the lead medical investigator and Senior Nurse, Clinical Trials, is also encouraged.About usThe Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust is a world-leading cancer centre.
