The opportunityDue to our ongoing growth, we are looking for a Intermediate BMS Optimisation Engineer to play a leading role in the growth of our Energy Optimisation team in our Blackburn office.Location BlackburnSalary Competitive depending upon experienceAbout the roleAs an intermediate BMS optimisation engineer you will work closely with the optimisation team on all aspects of our BMS energy savings initiatives and will be given the opportunity to contribute to the design, implementation, and verification of those initiatives. Our experienced team will provide training and hands-on-support to help grow your skills, ensuring you gain the technical and practical knowledge needed to develop your career.Key responsibilities
  • Carry out detailed surveys of BMS and controlled HVAC equipment to support the identification BMS and HVAC energy conservation initiatives
  • Assess the baseline performance of BMS control strategies through the interrogation of strategy drawings, O&M documentation, and observed operating conditions.
  • Identify and collect existing BMS logs, or setup new logging as applicable, to support the modelling of potential BMS and HVAC energy savings initiatives.
  • Work closely with our BMS sub-contractor supply chain to design and cost BMS energy savings initiatives for EPC tenders, high-level assessment, and investment grade proposals.
  • Work closely with BMS sub-contractor supply chain to create, review, and seek client approval of BMS reviewable design data such as control's philosophy, risk assessment, method statement, and impact assessment.
  • Work closely with our project delivery teams to ensure BMS initiatives are delivered to the agreed design specifications within timeframe and budget.
  • Support the commissioning, witness testing, and handover of delivered BMS energy savings initiatives.
  • Support the measurement and verification of guaranteed energy savings.
What you will needThe PersonThe ideal candidate will be a motivated and reliable individual with a foundational understanding of BMS and common HVAC control strategies. They should have some experience working alongside BMS sub-contractors and project delivery teams, supporting the successful delivery of projects to specification, budget, and schedule. This role offers training and ongoing support from senior team members to help further develop your skills and confidence in BMS optimisation and project coordination. Experience of energy savings initiatives would be advantageous but is not essential.Skills/ Experience
  • A basic understanding of common BMS and HVAC control strategies and their operation, with a willingness to continue learning through hands-on experience and team support.
  • Some experience supporting the delivery of BMS projects in collaboration with BMS sub-contractors and wider project teams.
  • Familiarity with integrating HVAC plant into BMS systems along with a working knowledge, or eagerness to develop knowledge, of common high-level communication protocols such as BACnet, Modbus, and M-Bus.
  • Exposure to, or an interest in developing skills, working with customer IT teams to support infrastructure upgrades and assist in the transition from proprietary BMS networks to modern Ethernet-based systems.
