In partnership with a Further Education CollegeTeaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated and experienced Learning Support Practitioner to work with students who have physical disabilities and/or medical conditions within a Further Education setting. This important role is delivered in partnership with a well-established college and focuses on ensuring that students receive the personal care, medical support, and encouragement they need to fully participate in college life and achieve their goals.This role involves developing and overseeing care plans, coordinating support teams, and working closely with staff and external professionals to provide a safe and inclusive learning environment.Key ResponsibilitiesOversee and coordinate the work of Teaching Assistants who support students with personal care duties, ensuring tasks are completed effectively and on time.Carry out assessments for students with medical and physical needs, creating individual care plans and risk assessments, and reviewing them regularly.Collaborate with healthcare professionals (e.g. physiotherapists, occupational therapists) to ensure smooth transitions into and out of college for students.Offer guidance and training to support staff, ensuring they are equipped to deliver manual handling and other care responsibilities safely.Monitor and assure the quality of Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans (PEEPs) across the college.Chair annual reviews of students' Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) within your caseload.Lead and deliver annual training on safe moving and handling procedures.Maintain knowledge and skills in assistive technology and specialist equipment required for student care and independence.Liaise with contractors to manage the maintenance and compliance of equipment in accordance with health and safety legislation (including LOLER).Complete and share risk assessments for students with medical conditions such as epilepsy, diabetes, anaphylaxis, and physical disabilities, ensuring consistent implementation across the college.Deliver one-to-one or small group sessions to promote independence and support personal goal setting and progress.Monitor student progress using the college’s systems, reviewing progress, behaviour, and engagement.Work with teaching and administrative staff to address concerns related to attendance and punctuality.Maintain clear and detailed records of support provided and student progress, sharing relevant information with internal staff, parents/carers, or external agencies.Support classroom staff by advising on inclusive strategies and student-specific needs.Participate in examination support and invigilation as required.Ideal CandidateExperience working with young people or adults with physical disabilities and medical needs in an educational or care setting.Knowledge of personal care planning, risk assessment, and relevant health and safety regulations.Confident in liaising with medical professionals and coordinating multi-agency support.Strong interpersonal and organisational skills, with a flexible and proactive approach.Willingness to undertake specialist training (e.g. medication administration, physiotherapy techniques) if required.Understanding of inclusive education and the importance of enabling student independence and dignity.Why Work with Teaching Personnel?Be part of a dedicated support network within the further education sector.Flexible opportunities with personalised consultant support.Competitive pay and CPD opportunities.Opportunity to make a meaningful difference to learners with high support needs.If you are passionate about supporting students with physical and medical needs and want to contribute to a safe, inclusive, and empowering learning environment, we’d love to hear from you.Apply now to begin a fulfilling support role within Further Education.All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
