- Be involved and contribute to clinical protocols and developments for the specialist palliative care service.
- Embrace and support line management and the department in making service improvements effective in the workplace.
- Ensure compliance with organisational policies and procedures and national, legal and professional standards.
- Be an active member of appropriate groups representing needs of patients and appropriate staff.
- Contribute to the development and delivery of a seven day service working flexibly over the seven days to meet the needs of the service.
- Maintain accurate up to date information relevant to service compiling statistical evidence as required.
- Contribute to an annual report relating to the service and participate in Macmillan review.
- Contribute to management of complaints and incidents.
- Work within palliative care clinical governance framework.

- Registered General Nurse
- Recordable Oncology/Palliative qualification (20 credits at 1st degree level) or equivalent practical experience.
- Relevant First Degree or on degree pathway
- Teaching qualification and/or experience of teaching
- Advanced communication skills
- Able to demonstrate post registration experience in palliative care
- Evidence of recent study in the last 12 months
- Able to demonstrate knowledge about the importance of effective communication in a team and with patients and their families
- Specialist palliative care experience is desirable
- Demonstrates ability to teach multi professional team informally or formally.
- Has the knowledge and skills to evaluate research and ensure evidence based practice
- Able to take responsibility for caseload of patients, able to prioritise.
- Understands and has the ability to take on board new concepts/initiatives
- Able to problem solve
- Ability to participate in change at clinical level
- Aware of self-responsibility for professional development
- Demonstrates a sound understanding of the principles of palliative care and specialist palliative care
- Self-awareness of own personal developmental needs / limitations.

- Registered General Nurse
