PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
  • We are seeking an ambitious Associate or Managing Associate to join our Finance Disputes team based in Manchester. This role offers the opportunity to advise and represent leading banks, asset-based lenders, commercial finance providers, insolvency practitioners, and private equity investors on a wide range of high-value and complex disputes.
  • You will be involved in significant cases, including multi-million-pound fraud claims, urgent injunction applications, and both claimant and defendant litigation in the County Court, High Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court. You will also advise on strategies to resolve disputes pre-action, often avoiding litigation for clients.
  • We are hiring to support the continued growth of our Finance Disputes practice, driven by increasing client demand for our expertise in resolving complex, high-profile disputes, fraud claims and cross-border asset recovery.
THE TEAMOur Finance Disputes team is a core part of the wider Disputes & Investigations practice, with lawyers based across the UK and Internationally. The team is highly regarded for delivering exceptional results in both complex commercial disputes and large-scale portfolio recoveries.We act for some of the most prominent names in the financial services sector, including high street banks, commercial finance providers, asset-based lenders, and insolvency practitioners. We are trusted to resolve matters that involve regulatory scrutiny (FCA, FSCS, FOS), reputational risk, and urgent enforcement issues across multiple jurisdictions.The quality of work is consistently high-profile, with the team regularly appearing in the higher courts and managing significant cross-border disputes. Our lawyers also have a strong track record in securing early resolutions through negotiation, mediation, and ADR, ensuring excellent client outcomes.What makes us different is the breadth of work - from multi-million-pound fraud disputes to large-scale debt recoveries - and the opportunity to develop a rounded skillset as part of a collaborative, ambitious team.WHAT TO EXPECT IN THIS ROLEAs an Associate/Managing Associate, you will:
  • Act on complex finance litigation in the County Court, High Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court.
  • Handle fraud-related disputes, including “fresh air” invoicing, sales out of trust, and dishonest assistance claims.
  • Manage large-scale debt recovery portfolios for leading banks and commercial finance providers.
  • Advise on and resolve disputes at the pre-action stage wherever possible.
  • Handle insolvency-related disputes, including actions against guarantors and indemnifiers, and complex defended proceedings.
  • Advise on and obtain urgent injunctions and delivery-up orders, including cross-border enforcement and asset recovery.
  • Support clients on regulatory and reputational issues, including FOS, FCA, FSCS and data protection disputes.

  • Qualified lawyer with strong experience in commercial litigation and finance disputes.
  • Proven track record of acting for financial institutions, lenders, or commercial clients in contentious matters.
  • Ability to manage a varied caseload, from complex High Court litigation to high-volume recoveries.
  • Experience of fraud-related disputes, injunctions, or cross-border enforcement.
  • A consultative and commercial approach - you will be confident advising clients on risk, strategy and resolution at both pre-action and litigation stages.
Desirables
  • Experience handling disputes involving regulators (FCA, FSCS, FOS) or insolvency practitioners.
  • Knowledge of professional negligence claims against third-party advisors (e.g. valuers).
  • Exposure to international arbitration or cross-border disputes.
