Accommodation is available upon request for candidates taking part in the selection process.How does this role contribute to our collective success?AXIS is seeking an Underwriting lead within a newly formed Capacity Solutions business unit, which is focussed on multi-line portfolio business written with brokers and MGAs. This new business unit will operate under the remit and direction of the Group CUO, and be responsible for successfully assessing, onboarding and managing multi-line portfolio business, whilst maximising the potential returns for AXIS. The selected candidate will be the lead underwriter of this business unit, responsible for the underwriting appraisal for all new and renewal opportunities as well as act as the primary point of contact on underwriting referrals from distribution and underwriting partners. This role is critical to the overall success of the business and operating model. This new business unit will be supported in its execution by a virtual team from across AXIS, including our CUO Office, Operations and Distribution.This position reports to the Head of Capacity Solutions.What will you do in this role?
  • Lead and co-ordinate the underwriting appraisal for new and renewal business
  • Technical underwriting lead for the business unit, ensuring portfolio underwriting standards are maintained on each deal
  • Liaise with product specific underwriting teams as required in both the development and appraisal of new opportunities and specific risk referrals
  • Primary point of contact for underwriting referrals from distribution & underwriting partners
  • Support the prospecting for new multi-line portfolio opportunities with Brokers and MGAs
  • Work with the CUO office to determine optimal portfolio shape, against our Group management risk appetite framework, mitigating portfolio clash and seeking to add greater diversification to the Group portfolio overall
  • Develop required portfolio monitoring KPIs with support from functional teams
  • Manage the pipeline of new opportunities on behalf of the team, providing ad-hoc reporting as required
  • Work with all functional departments to ensure an efficient operating model for Multi-line portfolio business
  • Maintain underwriting governance standards for the business unit, including underwriting guidelines, management of internal referrals and individual portfolio underwriting audits

  • The suitable candidate will have at least 10 years of experience in an underwriting role in commercial lines (re)insurance.
  • Excellent negotiation, interpersonal/communication skills, and strong marketing abilities.
  • Self-initiated and high motivation; proactively addressing of issues
  • CII qualifications or working towards.
  • Experience in building strong and effective relationships with colleagues and leadership with a proven ability to win confidence of business partners and influence outcomes.
  • Experience in efficient deal structuring and portfolio assessment
  • Experience in and perspective on best practice operating models, governance and business unit performance frameworks
