Contract Type: PermanentAre you passionate about empowering young people to achieve their full potential?Do you want to play a meaningful role in shaping lives while supporting inclusive education?We are supporting a FE College who are looking for a dedicated Learning Support Mentor to join their friendly and professional Construction team. This is your opportunity to provide hands-on support that helps learners thrive-academically, socially, and emotionally.What You'll Be DoingAs a Learning Support Mentor, you'll work closely with teaching staff to support the learning, development, and independence of our students, particularly those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). You'll be at the heart of their journey, helping them overcome barriers and unlock their potential.Your Learning Support Mentor role will involve:
  • Supporting young people to achieve their individual learning goals, including targets outlined in their Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
  • Adapting class resources to suit individual needs-this could include enlarging text, modifying instructions, or other creative solutions.
  • Working one-to-one with students to review and adapt their support needs, ensuring the help they receive is always relevant and effective.
  • Collaborating with academic staff inside and outside the classroom, assisting with reading, note-taking, word processing, and use of enabling technologies.
  • Promoting independence and inclusion, empowering students to progress toward their personal goals.
  • Providing supervision and support at breaks, lunch, and during offsite activities as necessary.
  • Maintaining records of attendance, targets, and progress, ensuring detailed support documentation.
  • Attending team meetings and contributing to improvements in learning support.
  • Supporting students during therapy interventions, following guidance from professionals.
  • Identifying, referring, and assisting with safeguarding and general student wellbeing as part of a supportive team.
  • Taking part in ongoing training and professional development, supported by the Learning Support Manager.

Qualifications Needed
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths at Grade C/4 or above.
  • Ideally, experience working with people with SEND, though this is not essential if you have the right attitude and are a fast learner.
  • Additional attributes such as Level 2 Learning Support qualification, or interest in working towards one, are desirable.
