About usThe UCL Finance department is divided into four Directorates: Finance Business Partnering, Finance Service Simplification, Financial Planning and Analysis and Finance Services. Together, they manage UCL’s financial performance and strategy, providing vital services and advice across the University.The Management Accounting team, part of the Finance Business Partnering Directorate, leads on management accounting, internal reporting, and compliance with regulatory requirements. This team works closely with faculties and departments to improve financial management and reporting accuracy.About the roleWe are are currently recruiting for a colleague to join us as Deputy Head of Management Accounting on a 12-month secondment. Reporting to the Head of Management Accounting, you will lead and motivate the management accounting team, supporting the delivery of accurate, timely, and insightful management accounts, budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis across the University.Your key responsibilities will include overseeing month-end and year-end processes, ensuring compliance with financial regulations, driving improvements in systems and workflows, and fostering close collaboration with finance business partners and stakeholders. You will play a crucial role in enhancing data accuracy, financial insight, and the continuous development of the team.This role offers an excellent opportunity to lead change, streamline financial processes, and support UCL’s wider finance function through strong leadership and proactive service improvement.Please note, this opportunity is available exclusively as a 12-month fixed-term secondment for current UCL staff. This is a grade 9 role that has a salary range of £68,284-£76,244 including London weighting allowance.About youYou will be a fully qualified accountant with significant post-qualification experience in management accounting or a similar finance role, ideally with a track record of financial leadership and continuous improvement. Experience working within a complex organisation—and preferably within Higher Education—will be advantageous.Strong communication and interpersonal skills, a customer service mindset, and the ability to build effective working relationships across teams are essential to succeed in this role.What we offerAs well as the exciting opportunities this role presents, we also offer some great benefits some of which are below:
