Act Courageously * Collaborate * Empower: To Deliver SolutionsPurpose of the Senior Authorised Person (SAP)The Senior Authorised Person (SAP) will attend customers' sites, to oversee and manage High Voltage (HV) operations on utility-scale solar PV assets across the UK. The SAP will be responsible for ensuring the safe operation, maintenance, and compliance of HV systems, acting alongside the Control Engineer as the primary authority for switching, isolation, and issuing safety documentation. The PV systems are ground mounted. The SAP will carry out High-Voltage (HV) and Low-Voltage (LV) maintenance across the Bluefield portfolio including utilising and testing of solar PV instruments.Health and Safety also plays a significant part in this role with responsibilities including:
  • following company HV safety rules.
  • Following company and site-specific method statements and risk assessments.
  • Ensuring tasks are performed in accordance with industry best practice (including Safety).
  • Following company and owner procedures, plans, and guidelines as well as all pertinent legislation and regulations/standards.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesThese will include, but are not limited to:
  • Responsible for routine maintenance, testing, and remedial work on deployed solar PV systems.
  • Lead and supervise HV maintenance activities, fault response, and emergency operations.
  • Planning with BOL Control Engineer and BOL SAP’s and performing HV and LV Preventative Maintenance accordingly with the annual Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM).
  • Responsible for HV operation, including but not limited to switching and repair works as occur and as guided by the appointed Control and External Authorising Engineer.
  • Issuing Permit to Work, Limitation of Access and Sanction to Test where appropriate.
  • Responsible for performing Corrective Maintenance and upgrades to HV infrastructure as required.
  • Own risk assessment, analysis and operational limitations. Report all safety incidents and learning opportunities to line manager.
  • Responsible for supervision and coordination of third-party contractors carrying out works on site.
  • Liaise with Distribution Network Operators (DNOs), Client and other stakeholders as required.
  • Ensure compliance with Electricity at Work Regulations, BS7671, and other relevant UK standards and legislation.
  • Coordinate third party contractors in order to comply with Health & Safety (H&S) Regulations.
  • Keeping accurate and detailed records of electrical testing, that are suitable for audit.
  • Providing support to the Field Service Engineers in fault finding for any system that is not performing correctly.
  • Maintain data security and confidentiality by using information within the parameters of the job role, any applicable SLAs, the company data policies and / or privacy notices and the statutory guidelines set out within the GDPR and any associated UK legislation, in particular data that is generated by CCTV or that may be classified as personal
  • Comply with all required fire, health and safety requirements for the environment in which you are working, including making yourself aware of the current applicable policies and risk assessments and acting accordingly, and attending any required
Required Qualifications, Skills and experience:
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in HV operations, ideally within renewable energy or utility-scale solar.
  • Recognised SAP authorisation from a UK DNO or UK equivalent training provider.
  • Strong understanding of HV protection systems, transformers, switchgear, and grid compliance.
  • Electrical engineering degree or HNC/HND in a relevant discipline.
  • Excellent knowledge of UK electrical safety regulations and industry best practices.
  • Full UK driving license and willingness to travel nationwide.
Desirable Skills:
  • Experience with SCADA systems, remote monitoring, and digital asset management platforms.
  • Familiarity with battery energy storage systems (BESS) and hybrid renewable installations.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work independently and make critical decisions under pressure.
Job LocationHome based with frequent UK travel.You are required to visit company sites within the UK; this requires you to be able to drive.Hours of Work37 ½ hours per week, Monday to Friday 9:00 am until 5:30 pm.
