- Knowledge of the impact of torture and exile on individuals and families across the full range of ages and phases of the life cycle.
- Training in two or more evidence-based psychological therapies, and how these can be applied to work with torture survivors, using brief, medium and long-term interventions.
- Knowledge of at least one of a range of evidence-based approaches to
- trauma therapy for treating PTSD eg. Trauma-focused CBT, Narrative
- Exposure Therapy and EMDR sufficient to be able to deploy this model
- clinically under supervision.
- Knowledge of relevant mental health legislation, including the mental
- health acts (1983 & 2007) and the Mental Capacity Act (2005) and relevant safeguarding legislation.
- Experience of working therapeutically or in another supportive role with asylum seekers and refugees.
- Ability to carry out holistic psychological and social assessments of
- survivors of torture.
- Knowledge and experience of using psychometric assessment.
- Therapeutic skills in working with trauma survivors experience i.e. PTSD, loss, guilt, shame depression, pain, displacement, and with those in crisis.
- Experience of delivering training, consultation and supervision to other
- professionals as well as trainee clinical or counselling psychologists.
- Advanced research skills, and experience of leading on service evaluation and research projects.
- Computer skills (including WORD, email/outlook, databases) sufficient to be able to use these packages and others of a similar nature in everyday work.
- Training and experience in offering supervision.
- Training in systemic therapy.
- Knowledge of the asylum process and asylum support system in the UK
- and clients rights under these systems.
- Experience of working with interpreters in a therapy setting.
- Sufficient proficiency in an additional language appropriate to the clients who use FfT services, in order to offer therapy in this language.
- Training and experience in offering line management to clinical staff.
- Qualification in clinical supervision.
- Training or teaching qualification.
- Qualified in a relevant discipline Doctorate level training in Clinical
- Psychology or Counselling Psychology.
- Accredited by the HCPC in the clinical/counselling psychology scope.
