We are looking for a caring and motivated Healthcare Assistant to join our Theatre and PACU team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a vital role in supporting patients through their surgical journey. You'll be part of a friendly, supportive team that places patient care at the heart of everything we do, working across both theatre and recovery to ensure every patient receives safe, respectful, and high-quality care.This role offers the chance to develop your skills in a dynamic environment, with full training, supervision, and opportunities for career progression.What you'll be doingAs a key member of our multi-disciplinary team, you will:
  • Provide compassionate support to patients before, during, and after surgery.
  • Assist qualified staff within both theatres and recovery, ensuring patients feel safe and reassured at every stage.
  • Take and record vital signs, support with wound dressings, venepuncture (after training), and assist during anaesthesia induction.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and well-organised clinical environment.
  • Handle patient documentation and maintain accurate, confidential records.
  • Welcome and support patients and their families, communicating clearly and sensitively.
  • Participate in training and development to grow your knowledge and skills
What we'll look for in youWith your previous experience in an acute or elective healthcare environment, you will also be a:
  • A natural team player.
  • Passionate about patient care, with good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Flexible, organised, and able to prioritise a busy workload under pressure.
  • Confident in using IT systems and maintaining accurate records.
  • Committed to professional development – holding or willing to complete the Care Certificate.
  • Calm, compassionate, and approachable, always treating patients with dignity and respect.
  • NVQ Level 3 in Care/Promoting Independence, experience in elective surgery, or knowledge of care pathways - desirable but not essential

In my previous job I worked 9 to 5 and I was on the road all the time. On top of that I was on call every weekend and my time was not my own or my family's. The job as a Health Care Assistant (HCA) at HMP Hewell had a shift pattern of three long days a week, and those days change according to the rota. I worked one weekend in three, leaving me four days during the school week to be at home when my children came home. It was ideal in the holidays.
