
Band 8 Dermatology Cancer Nurse Specialist

- Lead and coordinate dermatology cancer MDT meetings, ensuring timely case discussions, accurate documentation, and clear communication between consultants, surgeons, histopathologists, and other specialists.
- Act as the central point of contact for skin cancer patients, ensuring continuity of care and effective case management.
- Deliver expert follow-up care to patients with skin cancer diagnoses or those undergoing surveillance, offering assessment, advice, and clinical interventions as appropriate.
- Provide patient education regarding diagnosis, treatment plans, skin surveillance, sun safety, and self-monitoring.
- Collaborate closely with dermatologists, plastic surgeons, GPs, and wider MDT members to ensure timely investigations, referrals, and treatment planning.
- Participate in service improvement initiatives, audits, and quality assurance processes to maintain excellence in dermatology cancer services.
- Support the development and implementation of clinical pathways, ensuring they align with NICE guidance and local/national standards.
- Mentor and support junior staff, contributing to a culture of learning and professional development.
- Registered Nurse with valid NMC registration.
- Extensive experience in dermatology, oncology, or skin cancer nursing.
- Proven ability to lead and coordinate MDT meetings with multi-professional teams.
- Skilled in delivering follow-up care for oncology patients, particularly those with non-melanoma and melanoma skin cancers.
- Strong knowledge of national skin cancer guidelines (e.g., BAD, NICE, MDT manual).
- Confident in autonomous clinical practice and decision-making.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a patient-centred approach.
- Non-medical prescribing qualification.
- Previous experience working in community-based dermatology or cancer pathways.
- Experience in data collection for MDT tracking and cancer audit submissions.
