We are seeking a passionate and skilled Chef to join our team at the YMCA Hostel. The Chef will be responsible for preparing and cooking nutritious and tasty meals for our residents and guests, ensuring food safety and hygiene standards are maintained.You will work closely with other kitchen staff to manage food inventory, plan menus, and provide an excellent dining experience. This role requires creativity, time management, and a commitment to delivering high-quality meals in a fast-paced environment.Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and cook a variety of meals for hostel residents and guests.
  • Managing the relationship between catering staff and Residents, ensuring any incidents or complaints are referred to the Catering Manager
  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen area.
  • Ensure food safety and hygiene practices are followed.
  • Ensuring food is prepared, produced, presented and served at correct service times, within YMCA’s standards and to agreed specification.
  • Monitor and manage food inventory, ordering supplies as needed.
  • Work efficiently in a team, collaborating with other staff members.
Qualifications:
  • 706/1 or 706/2 or NVQ equivalent
  • Level 2 Certificate in Food Safety & Health & Safety or willingness to undertake the training.
  • Knowledge of the EU regulation 1169/2011 and 14 ‘Annex ll’ allergens for all food
Working hours: We require chefs to work across a 7-day rota, with a flexible approach to how those days are allocated—this will depend on the availability and preferences of successful applicants.
The role operates between 11:00am and 7:00pm, Monday to Sunday, with really flexible scheduling. Working Pattern: 11am to 7pm Monday to Sunday. We deliver a vast array of services across Herts, Beds and Bucks that reach over 135,000 individuals annually.These include:
