- Reviewing and reporting blood films as requested by the biomedical scientists.
- Liaising with General Practitioners as appropriate to facilitate further timely investigation and review
- Performing and reporting bone marrow aspirates
- Reviewing patients in a weekly consultative clinic as per the applicants preferred interest (General Haematology or Thrombosis/Anticoagulation)
- Reviewing inpatient referrals for suspected underlying haematological conditions and advising on further haematological investigation.

- Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC)
- MBBS/MB ChB or evidence of equivalent qualification
- FRCPath (or equivalent)
- Evidence of training and experience in clinical and laboratory haematology
- Able to take responsibility for delivering service with supervision
- CCT in haematology
- Knowledge and experience of relevant specialty
- Broad range of IT skills
- Knowledge of evidence-based practice
- Ability to communicate effectively with clinical colleagues, colleagues in pathology and support staff
- Good knowledge of, and ability to use, spoken and written English
- Ability to present effectively to an audience, using a variety of methods, and to respond to questions and queries
- Ability to develop effective working relationships on an individual and multi-disciplinary basis with all levels of staff
- Ability to practise independently as a consultant
- Ability to adapt and respond to changing circumstances
- Understanding of clinical governance and the individual responsibilities it implies
- Knowledge of the principles of clinical audit and evidence of participation
- Participation in continuing professional development (CPD) scheme and, where relevant, evidence of participation
- Experience of teaching medical students and junior doctors
- Experience of supervising trainee haematologists
- Knowledge of the principles involved in research
- Evidence of involvement in research
- Meets professional health requirements
- Willingness to travel to and work in other sites necessitated by the role
