- Champion the development, delivery and evolution of engineering and solution assurance capability within their respective division.
- Provide an agreed divisional perspective for the solutions and supporting capability required by the division in support of the development of the internal investment roadmap, the technology strategy & roadmap, and the strategic training plan
- Provide functional leadership to the Divisional Solution Architects
- Provide support to business development activities with their respective division ensuring that associated solution development activities support the successful winning of new business
- Support divisional pre-sales activity and customer engagement activities.
- Support the maintenance of solution architecture role descriptions and the definition of the skills that a specific role profile should possess
- Provide the solutions input into the assessment and selection of technical partners
- NB This is in addition to the standard role of Solution Architect
- The process of translating business strategy into the people and technical capabilities required and when, agreeing a set of prioritised solutions and capability development activities required by their respective division, linked to the sales and deliveries that they support.
- Supporting the independent assessment of projects and programmes, confirming they are adhering to the assurance and lifecycle management frameworks as described in the governance & assurance framework.
- Providing solutions leadership in support of business development activities, ensuring designs are sufficiently compelling to win new business.
- Leading the provision of solutions pre-sales support to their respective division.
- Support their respective division in client engagement activities.
- Ensuring functional leadership is appropriately provided for the solution architecture population within their respective division
- The provision of high quality solution architecture capability within their respective division
- The undertaking of required solution architecture Governance and Assurance activities within their respective business division
- That Solution Architecture activities are undertaken in a fashion that is consistent with the policies and processes laid out in the Governance and Assurance framework and Engineering Edge
- Driving solution architecture quality improvement within their respective division
- Developing and maintaining a roadmap for the evolution of and the requirement for solutions and capability, to drive the internal investment and development activities provided by the Office of Technology
- Play a full role in the senior L&MS IS Leadership Team, covering for Director IS as required
- Functionally lead and mentor SAs in the L&MS Division, providing guidance on system design, problem-solving, and technical decisions
- Foster collaboration across the wider Leidos business to share and assimilate design and systems engineering best practice
- Develop and maintain a high-performance engineering culture focused on innovation and continuous improvement
- Lead the delivery of quality control processes to ensure high standards are maintained across the engineering lifecycle from a design perspective
- Continue to define and evolve our technical roadmap for solution engineering methodologies and toolchain, ensuring alignment with the company’s strategic goals and inspired by industry best practice
- Identify and evaluate emerging technologies, tools, and methodologies to continuously improve system design and performance
- Collaborate with executive leadership to translate business needs into technical solutions, ensuring alignment with organisational objectives
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related Engineering field
- Desirable to be a Chartered Engineer
- Substantial Solution Architecting or related senior technical leadership roles, including substantial experience in the design, integration and development of complex systems
- Ideally experience working in government and defence
- Proven experience leading engineering teams and managing multidisciplinary projects
- Experience with system design, architecture, and integration across hardware and software domains
- Deep knowledge of industry standards, tools, and methodologies used in systems engineering
- Expertise in solution design methodologies and systems engineering methodologies (e.g., Model-Based Systems Engineering)
- Application of design and systems engineering practices across the engineering ‘V-model' to develop complex products
- Strong understanding of software and hardware integration, embedded systems, and networked systems
- Proficiency with various development platforms, programming languages, and tools (e.g. Doors, Cameo, Jira, SysML)
- Familiarity with agile development methodologies, DevOps practices, and continuous integration/deployment processes
- Experience in designing and successfully delivering Cloud based end to end capabilities
- Excellent leadership skills, with the ability to mentor and inspire technical teams
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to navigate complex technical challenges
- Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Strong decision-making abilities under pressure, with a focus on long-term strategic goals
- BPSS Pre-screening required to Start
- SC required for the role
- You need to be in the UK with the ability to hold an SC clearance or above
