We are currently recruiting for an Associate Investigator. Our team includes world class experts and dynamic go-getters. This is a full-time position based in Kingston, Ontario.We are looking for an Associate Investigator with a chemistry, chemical/materials/mechanical engineering background with strong hands-on experience in chemical process development. This position involves the development and piloting of novel chemical processes, supporting technology transfer through to commercialization, and small-lot manufacturing at the Client's Kingston Research Facility.Responsibilities:This individual will:
- Work within a multi-disciplined team, focused on technology research and development aimed at creating opportunities for business growth and renewal.
- Participate in the various stages of technology research and development, from concept through to commercialization.
- Work in an environment that is continuously improving and evolving to meet the changing needs of our customers.
Technical and Industry Experience:
- The ideal applicant will have a solid educational background in chemical/mechanical/materials engineering/chemistry, strong interpersonal skills and the ability and desire to be an effective team member. As the project work evolves, flexibility will be required in terms of willingness to take on different work and to be flexible in work schedules (i.e., Some short periods of shiftwork may be required).
- Junior to intermediate level of professional experience in hands-on chemical process development.
- Experience specifying, assembling, and operating lab and/or pilot-scale chemical process equipment/machinery.
- Experience in a lab setting and knowledge of general lab safety processes and procedures.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for writing reports, operating instructions, and authoring or revising procedures. Strong analytical, technical, data organization, and computer skills.
- Strong planning and reporting skills.
- Strong ability to work independently.
- Experience working on multi-disciplinary teams.
- Ability to understand process safety procedures.
- Experience specifying, assembling and operating lab and/or pilot scale chemical process equipment.
- Experience working with equipment suppliers and contractors.
- Experience working on multi-disciplinary teams and also strong ability to work independently.
- Ability to understand process safety procedures.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to write reports, operating instructions and author or revise procedures.
- Demonstrated experience with MS Office suite, particularly Microsoft Excel is required.
- Experience in simulation tools, advanced statistical tools (Minitab, JMP) analysis (DOE, multivariate statistics) would be an asset.
- Strong planning and reporting skills.
- The ideal applicant will have demonstrated good communication and prioritization skills as well as strong hands-on experience in one or more of the following areas: chemical process development, reaction engineering, laboratory and small-scale pilot processes design/build/operation.
- Professional experience in hands-on chemical process development.
- Familiarity with lab to pilot scale-up.
- Ideal candidates will have some research experience.
- Working knowledge of mechanical equipment, process, production chemistry, structural, electrical, instrumentation, control systems and operations.
- Experience with P&ID, mass & energy balance.
- Ability to understand and complete Process Hazard Analysis.
- Strong desire to commercialize technology and a results-oriented mentality.
- Familiarity with ISO quality assurance systems and documentation would be an asset.
- College diploma or BSc in Chemical/Mechanical/Materials Engineering or Chemistry.
