Working: Hybrid - 2 days onsite per weekOur ClientA public sector organisation responsible for the operational management, inspection and maintenance of a major Scottish bridge structure is seeking a highly skilled civil engineer. The role forms part of a Bridges Section charged with ensuring safety, maintenance and technical standards for a significant infrastructure asset. The successful candidate will work within a collaborative environment delivering projects from inception through to completion and overseeing large maintenance contracts.Key Responsibilities
- Lead management and delivery of inspection, maintenance, strengthening and replacement programmes for a major bridge
- Oversee contract management for bridge works valued between £350,000 and £5 million including negotiation of claims and disputes
- Develop and maintain risk and change management processes for ongoing bridge painting and maintenance contracts
- Manage bridge asset records and performance systems ensuring accuracy and compliance with governance requirements
- Coordinate budgets and report expenditure to senior management within the Bridges Section
- Provide technical advice on bridge and structural schemes across multiple directorates and external developers
- Undertake technical approval authority responsibilities under relevant design standards and manuals
- Contribute to the development and update of national standards, specifications and guidance
- Support preparation of official correspondence and responses related to the bridge
- Chartered civil or structural engineer with experience in highway or railway bridge design or assessment
- Proven project management, contract management and financial oversight capabilities
- Familiarity with national bridge standards, risk governance and asset management systems
- Experience managing major infrastructure contracts and multidisciplinary teams
- Desirable experience includes long-span cable-stayed or suspension bridges and participation in national technical committees
- Chartered membership of a relevant professional body (MICE or MIStructE)
- Degree or equivalent qualification in civil engineering or related discipline
- Registration with the Engineering Council
