Job Title: Locum Speech and Language Therapist – Acute Inpatient ServicesBanding: Band 7Location: John Radcliffe Hospital, OxfordStart Date: ASAPRate: To be confirmedDuration: Ongoing (initial 3-month contract with extension potential)Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am–4:30pmJob OverviewWe are currently seeking an experienced and highly skilled Band 7 Speech and Language Therapist (SALT) to join the acute inpatient team at John Radcliffe Hospital. This is a locum opportunity ideal for a therapist with advanced clinical competencies and leadership experience, looking to contribute to a dynamic and multidisciplinary hospital setting.You will be responsible for the assessment and treatment of acutely unwell patients across general medicine wards, including elderly care, cardiac, respiratory, trauma, and emergency medicine. The caseload also includes one cardiothoracic critical care unit, with flexibility to support other inpatient areas such as Acute Neurosciences, Critical Care, and Acute Stroke as needed.Key ResponsibilitiesIn this role, you will:
  • Provide specialist assessment and management of dysphagia and communication disorders
  • Deliver therapy across a range of inpatient wards, adapting to caseload demands
  • Utilise advanced clinical skills such as tracheostomy management and videofluoroscopy (VFS/MBS)
  • Support service delivery through leadership and supervision of junior staff
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation in line with professional standards
  • Contribute to quality improvement and service development initiatives
Qualifications and ExperienceTo be considered for this role, you must have:
  • A recognised degree in Speech and Language Therapy (or equivalent)
  • HCPC registration and eligibility for RCSLT membership
  • Proven experience in acute inpatient care and neurorehabilitation
  • At least one advanced competency: tracheostomy, VFS/MBS, or FEES
  • Experience in line management and clinical supervision
  • Knowledge of quality improvement and service delivery projects (desirable)
