Job Title: Locum Speech and Language Therapist – Acute Inpatient ServicesBanding: Band 6Location: John Radcliffe Hospital, OxfordStart Date: ASAPRate: To be confirmedDuration: Ongoing (initial 3-month contract with extension potential)Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am–4:30pmJob OverviewWe are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist (SALT) to join the acute inpatient team at John Radcliffe Hospital. This locum role offers the opportunity to work within a dynamic hospital environment, supporting a diverse caseload of acutely unwell patients across multiple medical specialties.You will be responsible for the assessment and treatment of patients with dysphagia and communication disorders on general medicine wards, including elderly care, cardiac, respiratory, trauma, and emergency medicine. The caseload also includes one cardiothoracic critical care unit, with flexibility to support other inpatient areas such as Acute Neurosciences, Critical Care, and Acute Stroke as needed.Key ResponsibilitiesIn this role, you will:
  • Provide specialist assessment and management of dysphagia and communication difficulties
  • Deliver therapy across a range of inpatient wards, adapting to caseload demands
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to support patient recovery
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation in line with professional standards
  • Flexibly support additional inpatient areas when required
  • Utilise advanced competencies such as tracheostomy and videofluoroscopy (highly desirable)
Qualifications and ExperienceTo be considered for this role, you must have:
  • A recognised degree in Speech and Language Therapy (or equivalent)
  • HCPC registration and eligibility for RCSLT membership
  • Experience in acute inpatient care and neurorehabilitation
  • Strong clinical reasoning and communication skills
  • Advanced competencies in tracheostomy and videofluoroscopy (desirable)
