This highly regarded national law firm, based in Bristol, is seeking to recruit a Managing Associate to join its Chambers UK and Legal 500 ranked Employment team. The team is recognized as a National Leader in the sector, with a strong reputation for providing top-tier legal services to clients across various industries, including retail, public, and financial services sectors. As a key member of the team, the Managing Associate will have the opportunity to work alongside"Leading Individuals" as recognised in the Legal 500. Depending on experience, there will be opportunities for Partnership from an early stage in their career.The firm's Employment team has a significant presence across England, Scotland, and Northern Ireland, providing comprehensive employment support. This fast-growing team is known for its expertise in defending Employment Tribunal claims, advising on corporate deals, and offering strategic HR support.The RoleThe position offers an exceptional opportunity for an ambitious Employment Lawyer to take on a senior role within a top-tier team and support the growth of the Employment offering. The Managing Associate will be involved in high-quality, varied work, including:
  • Advising employers on workplace issues such as disciplinaries, grievances, restructuring, and redundancies
  • Leading on complex Employment Tribunal claims, predominantly acting for Respondents
  • Providing employment law support on TUPE matters, corporate deals, outsourcing contracts, and client training
  • Enforcing post-termination restrictive covenants
  • Drafting contracts of employment, consultancy agreements, staff handbooks, settlement agreements, and other employment-related documentation
  • Utilising existing experience in advising large corporates, including liaising with board-level HR, general counsel, and in-house employment counsel
  • Collaborating with Partners and senior team members on business development strategies
  • Supervising and supporting junior lawyers, including Associates, Trainees, and Paralegals
The Ideal CandidateThe firm is seeking a Qualified Solicitor (SRA or Law Society Registered) with at least 7 years PQE who can demonstrate:
  • Extensive experience across all areas of employment law, particularly advising large corporate clients
  • Strong analytical, communication, and organisational skills, with the ability to manage a diverse caseload effectively
  • A client-focused approach with the ability to nurture and maintain long-standing client relationships
  • Proven experience in supervising and managing junior team members
  • Ambition and drive to succeed as a senior member of the team, with a commitment to developing the firm's offering both locally and nationally
The TeamThe Employment team is recognised as a "National Leader" (Band 1) by Chambers and Partners 2024. The team comprises over 30 specialists who provide advice across England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland. Their work includes:
  • Business reorganisations, redundancies, and advice on sensitive reputational issues
  • Boardroom support on corporate governance and reputational matters
  • Employment Tribunal representation, internal investigations, and employee consultation
  • Expertise in TUPE and outsourcing
  • Employment law training and strategic support on business-as-usual matters
