- Registered first level nurse.
- Current NMC registration.
- Bachelors degree (or equivalent experience)
- Community nursing specialist qualification (or equivalent)
- Working towards or willingness to work towards Masters level study
- Independent and/or supplementary nurse prescribing qualification.
- Smear takers certificate/qualification
- Pertinent postgraduate diplomas in long-term conditions management, such as Diabetes, Respiratory, Family Planning, Wound Care, Minor Illness (or a willingness to undertake post graduate studies according to the needs of the practice).
- Mentor/teaching qualification.
- Clinical supervision training and experience.
- 3 years post-registration experience.
- Recent primary care or community nursing experience.
- Experience of nurse-led management of long-term/chronic conditions.
- Experience of implementing protocols and clinical guidelines.
- Experience of quality improvement and audit.
- Experience of all aspects of general practice nursing
- Awareness of current issues in nursing and general practice
- Experience of facilitating learning in practice
- Experience of formal/informal teaching and of mentoring preregistration nursing or midwifery students
- Experience of supporting team members and co-ordinating team activities
- Accountability of own role and other roles in a nurse-led service.
- Management of patients with a range of long term/chronic conditions.
- Health promotion strategies.
- Local and national health policy.
- Wider health economy awareness.
- Clinical governance issues in primary care.
- Medicines management, including prescribing frameworks patient group directions and associated policy.
- Knowledge of public health issues.
- Ability to identify determinants on health in the local area.

- Clinical skills cervical screening, immunisation and vaccinations for adults and children, ear care, wound management, minor surgery.

- Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate care
