- Plan and coordinate daily transport operations, managing nationwide deliveries and collections while optimising route planning and vehicle utilisation across a fleet of articulated vehicles.
- Liaise with warehouse teams and on-site shunters to ensure trailer and vehicle availability, and communicate collection schedules and delivery bookings with internal and external customers.
- Ensure all contracted work is accurately booked through internal systems and aligned with customer expectations and service level agreements.
- Supervise a team of around 30 staff, including drivers and office personnel, conducting regular debriefs, one-to-one meetings, and supporting annual performance reviews to provide coaching and feedback.
- Foster a positive and productive work environment, motivating the team to meet departmental goals and maintain high standards of service.
- Monitor key performance indicators such as on-time delivery, shift revenue, and vehicle utilisation, reporting weekly performance to the Operations Manager and attending customer review meetings to present insights.
- Maintain accurate updates within the Transport Management System (TMS) to ensure operational transparency and efficiency.
- Oversee compliance with transportation laws, industry regulations, and environmental standards, ensuring vehicle checks and defect reports are completed via the Vehicle Check App.
- Contribute to risk management strategies and develop contingency plans to address operational challenges and minimise disruption.
- Support the development and implementation of a transport strategy focused on cost efficiency, sustainability, and customer satisfaction, while identifying opportunities to improve operational performance.
- Promote sustainable transport practices to reduce environmental impact and evaluate new technologies and systems to enhance efficiency.
- Perform general administrative duties including filing, photocopying, and data input, ensuring adherence to company policies and collaborating with line managers to maintain operational effectiveness.
- Previous experience in transport planning is essential. Similar regulatory role would be considered.
- Comprehensive knowledge of transport legislation including Working Time Directive (WTD), Drivers’ Hours, and Health & Safety regulations.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and engage drivers through structured reviews, debriefs, and performance coaching.
- Strong organisational abilities, capable of prioritising multiple deadlines in a dynamic transport environment.
- Experience producing and analysing reports and KPIs for internal and external stakeholders.
- Proficient in MS Office, especially Excel, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to build trust and rapport with diverse teams.
- Full UK driving licence required.
- Competitive Salary: Salary between £35,000pa and £37,000pa depending on experience.
- Hours: 08:00hrs – 18:30hrs, any 5 out of 7 shifts per week.
