- Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team to develop mechanical concepts through to full production, ensuring quality, performance, and cost targets are met.
- Work across a wide range of projects - from large, fabricated composite structures for series production to one-off, high-performance prototype vessels.
- Lead smaller projects or play a key role within larger programmes, taking responsibility for core mechanical deliverables.
- Own the mechanical design lifecycle - producing robust components and systems in line with company processes and industry standards.
- Apply sound engineering judgement with detailed design calculations and classical hand calcs.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of design methodology and digital toolsets.
- Support concept generation and feasibility studies during pre-contract phases.
- Guide and mentor junior engineers, fostering technical growth within the team.
- Liaise with internal stakeholders, suppliers, and clients to ensure alignment and excellence in delivery.
- Get hands-on with physical builds, testing and validation - bringing your ideas into the real world.
- Support business development through proposal input and technical scoping.
- Maintain oversight of multiple concurrent projects with clear tracking of risks, priorities, and delivery status.
- Input into DFMEA creation and engage in full product validation cycles.
- Oversee external resources and contractors, as needed, in collaboration with your line manager.
- A degree in mechanical, aerospace, automotive, or marine engineering.
- Strong CAD proficiency - ideally Siemens NX - with a deep understanding of design for manufacture (DFM) and GD&T.
- Expert knowledge of mechanical principles, with experience in detailed design and calculation of metallic and composite parts.
- Familiarity with material properties, welding, bonding, and mechanical fixing techniques.
- Experience in FEA analysis to inform and validate designs.
- Confidence in managing complexity, juggling priorities, and leading technical workstreams.
- Passion for engineering excellence and precision, with a mindset of continuous improvement.
- Comfortable in a workshop and build environment - practical experience is a plus.
