- Lead and support safeguarding enquiries and investigations, responding promptly to concerns about abuse, neglect, or risk to adults or children, and deciding on necessary protection measures.
- Carry out detailed assessments of individuals’ needs and risks, including home visits and interviews to understand family dynamics and vulnerability factors.
- Develop and implement safeguarding and support plans tailored to the needs of children, adults, and their families, ensuring these are person-centred and involve the service user’s participation where possible.
- Work collaboratively within multi-agency teams, such as health, police, education, housing, and specialist services, to coordinate interventions and share relevant information securely and effectively.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with children, adults, families, carers, and other professionals to improve outcomes and support protective work.
- Manage casework responsibly, including maintaining caseloads of vulnerable children and adults, keeping accurate records, preparing reports, and contributing to meetings such as Child Protection Conferences or Safeguarding Adults Boards.
- Act as an advocate and representative for vulnerable individuals in safeguarding processes, ensuring their voices are heard in decisions affecting their safety and wellbeing.
- Provide advice, guidance, and support to families and colleagues, including identifying needs, promoting safeguarding awareness, and sometimes delivering or facilitating training.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and safeguarding policies, such as the Care Act 2014 (adults), Children Act 1989/2004 (children), and Mental Capacity Act, applying principles of empowerment, prevention, proportionality, and partnership.
- Respond flexibly to crises or urgent safeguarding concerns, including participating in duty systems or emergency interventions as necessary.
