There is a temporary, part-time Healthcare Science Associate Practitioner vacancy in Biochemistry working across Dewsbury & District Hospital and Pinderfields Hospital, at the Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS trust.The contract is for 18 months and consists of 22.5 hours per week. This is an exciting opportunity to gain experience of working in a busy Biochemistry department.You will be processing patient samples, performing a broad range of scientific tasks as required by the biomedical scientist staff and working as part of a team across two hospital laboratories located at Dewsbury & District Hospital and Pinderfields Hospital.Main duties of the jobTo carry out a broad range of scientific and technical work within the department as required by biomedical scientist staff.To carry out testing on a range of bodily fluids and tissues many of which may be highly infectious and extremely unpleasant.To deal with any spillages of noxious and toxic chemicals and bodily fluids according to standard operating procedures.To carry out a range of routine technical tasks using analytical skills The range of tasks will be dependent on the area in which they are working.To work under supervision as required by managers, either as part of the out of hour's service provision or during the normal working day.To follow quality control procedures as set out in the departmental instructions.To work accurately and precisely in a conscientious, disciplined and flexible way.To maintain high technical standards and ensure that such areas in which they work are kept clean and tidy.To carry out routine and emergency maintenance and calibration of equipment both inside and outside the department as appropriate and to identify problems associated with equipment used to your managers.To conduct audit in line with UKAS requirements and to participate in other internal and external audit activity as required.About usWe are an acute trust caring for over one million people in Wakefield and Kirklees.
