This position is for a full-time Workshop Instructor in Manufacturing & Recycling to work within prison education at HMP Millsike.
The role will involve supervising offenders in the workshop, ensuring safe practices while supporting them to gain practical and employability skills that can be used on release.
- Lead the recycling and production of items such as mattress toppers, pet beds, and pillows.
- Supervise and motivate learners in the workshop, ensuring safety, productivity, and compliance at all times.
- Induct new learners, providing guidance on health and safety, tool use, and production processes.
- Set production targets, monitor quality standards, and manage stock and workflow.
- Promote employability skills including timekeeping, teamwork, and quality control.
- Collaborate with Work & Skills Coaches and custodial staff to support rehabilitation and learner progress.

- Experience in manufacturing, warehousing, logistics, or recycling, ideally in a supervisory or instructional role.
- Strong understanding of health and safety standards in a workshop setting.
- Proven ability to supervise, motivate, and support learners or staff.
- Organisational ability to manage stock, schedules, and performance monitoring.
- Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
- Experience delivering or assessing vocational qualifications (desired but not essential – support will be provided).
