OCU Group are currently recruiting for a Yard Operative to help with our busy yard!The purpose of the Yard Operative is to ensure the yard is kept clean, organised, and safe at all times while supporting operations through the loading, unloading, and movement of goods, vehicles, or equipment. The Yard person plays a key role in maintaining site efficiency and presentation.Responsibilities of the Yard Operative:
  • Maintain general cleanliness and tidiness of the yard and surrounding areas.
  • Load and unload deliveries of goods, equipment, or materials.
  • Safely operate plant equipment such as forklifts, telehandlers, or pallet trucks (where certified).
  • Record and monitor stock utilising our stock management system
  • Conduct stock checks, inventory movement, and basic record-keeping.
  • Prepare materials and equipment for dispatch or use on-site.
  • Ensure proper storage of items in line with company procedures and safety standards.
  • Carry out minor maintenance or repair tasks as required.
  • Report any safety hazards, damaged equipment, or site issues promptly.
  • Assist visitors, drivers, or subcontractors when on-site, ensuring compliance with site rules.
What we are looking for:
  • Previous experience in a similar yard or labouring role (preferred).
  • Forklift licence (Counterbalance or Reach) is required.
  • Experience of the water industry is required
  • Good understanding of health and safety practices.
  • Physically fit and able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Basic communication and organisational skills.
