An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and dynamic nurse to work within our Oxygen and COPD Specialist Nursing Teams as a hospital and community clinical nurse specialist. The nurse will be based at the Northern General Hospital.The candidate will be working with the COPD nursing team undertaking clinical reviews of acute COPD patients following hospital admission, via the respiratory and general medical consultant teams. The candidate will deliver individual patient education, to meet the COPD Quality Standards required by the BTS Audit. This will include smoking cessation, medication review and inhaler technique, pulmonary rehabilitation suitability, self-management advice. The candidate will be involved in the triage of patients from admission lists and will assess COPD patients for community support services and pathways.The candidate will develop their skills and knowledge in recognising respiratory failure, management, and appropriate treatment of this, whilst supporting palliative care needs.Main duties of the jobThere will also be the opportunity to work alongside the oxygen nursing team to develop knowledge/ experience in the management of oxygen therapy this may include telephone reviews and clinics. They will become familiar with oxygen equipment, safety concerns and be able to offer advice to families, carers, and other health professionals.The service operates 7 days a week, 08:30 hours - 16:30 hours; however, this may require a flexible approach to your working hours on occasions.The TeamThe COPD and Oxygen Nurse Specialists form part of the Respiratory Medicine directorate within the GRaDE care group.Who are we looking for?You will need to demonstrate excellent communication skills and be committed to providing safe, evidence based and compassionate care to our patient group, in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team. You will be required to work to Sheffield Teaching Hospitals PROUD standards and behaviours and be enthusiastic and passionate about patient care.The successful candidate will have first level registration and current NMC registration. They will have experience of caring for patients with COPD and other respiratory conditions, underpinned by relevant theoretical knowledge, and will be able to work effectively as a team member. The post requires demonstration of both personal and professional development.
