Pay: £30- 45 per hour, depending on experienceWe are seeking a compassionate, patient, and creative tutor to support a 16 year old boy with ASD and complex needs. This is a unique and rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference in a child's life by creating a positive, playful, and responsive learning environment. You will be working one-to-one with the young person, primarily within a home or therapeutic setting, with opportunities to explore outdoor or sensory-friendly spaces.The SEND Tutor role:Based within Sheffield in a non-school setting base, this part time SEND Tutor role (term time) delivering the bespoke curriculum that will be delivered to the student, with an emphasis on life skills and independence. The student is undertaking functional maths and functional English.SEND Tutor Key Responsibilities:
- Work with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure the learning can take place
- Build trust and emotional safety by attuning to the YP's pace and preferences
- Use playful, non-directive methods to support learning and engagement
- Be able and willing to travel to Sheffield and surrounding areas.
- Identify and anticipate sensory and emotional triggers
- Encourage initiation, allow time for processing
- Promote emotional regulation through calm and consistent presence
- Plan and adapt a modified curriculum to promote engagement
- Be willing to accompany the YP to safe and familiar places that support well being and learning
- Be willing to meet with the student and guardians/parents prior to the tuition being agreed.
- Calm, emotionally regulated, and reflective
- Experience working with autistic children or children with complex SEN
- Understanding of or willingness to learn about the students sensory needs, and triggers
- Comfortable using indirect language and creative teaching approaches
- Able to work beside or slightly behind the child, not in a confrontational or authoritative position
- Experience working as a tutor with SEN students
- DBS or willingness to obtain one
