We are seeking a dedicated School Engagement Officer to join a thriving school in Taunton, making a real difference to students’ lives by ensuring their safety, wellbeing, and full engagement in learning.This is a vital role for a passionate professional who can combine safeguarding expertise with the ability to inspire students to attend, achieve, and thrive.Main Purpose of the Role:Safeguard students and support them to ‘enjoy and achieve’.Drive improvements in attendance and punctuality through effective strategies.Provide targeted support for students whose attendance is a concern, ensuring disadvantaged learners are prioritised.Act as a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead, working closely with pastoral teams and families.Key Responsibilities:Develop and implement strategies to improve attendance and punctuality.Plan and carry out home visits to support students and families.Manage catch-up programmes for students with lost learning.Deliver individual and group interventions to re-engage students.Work with staff, parents, and outside agencies to address barriers to attendance.Promote positive attitudes to learning, behaviour, and school life.Maintain accurate records, complete statutory returns, and stay updated on DfE guidance.What We’re Looking For:A strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection.Experience working with young people and families to overcome barriers to education.Excellent communication skills to work effectively with a range of stakeholders.Organisational skills and attention to detail for maintaining records and reports.A commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion.Why Join Us?The chance to make a tangible impact on students’ lives and futures.Support from a collaborative pastoral and leadership team.Ongoing professional development opportunities.A school ethos that values safeguarding, high standards, and positive relationships.If you are motivated to champion attendance, engagement, and safeguarding — and ready to inspire positive change — we would love to hear from you.All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
