- MBBS or equivalent
- MRCP or equivalent
- FRCPath or equivalent
- Full and Specialist registration (and with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) or be eligible for registration within six months of interview.
- Applicants that are UK trained, must ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview
- oApplicants that are non-UK trained, will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT
- Additional degrees, e.g., BSc, MSc, MD, PhD
- Experience of all aspects of clinical and laboratory haematology with a broad base in Adult Haematology service delivery capabilities
- General Haematology service overview
- Specialist interest in Haemoglobinopathies
- oExperience of NHS structures & Governance
- Understand the principles of audit
- Evidence of participation in audit projects
- Evidence of devising and conducting audit
- Evidence of managing Change in Service
- Experience of teaching junior doctors and other staff
- Completion of a course or certificate related to teaching / training
- Evidence of organisational ability
- Good personal management skills
- Will have attended an NHS Management Course appropriate to consultant duties
- An understanding of general principles, scientific method, and interpretation of literature
- Evidence of personal research projects and their presentation
- Publications in peer-reviewed journals
- GCP trained and certified
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Evidence of leadership
- Organisational ability
- Able to take responsibility and cope with stressful situations
- Able to get on with other members of the multidisciplinary team
