
Project Engineer - Communication

- Analyse and review high-risk bids and proposals, determine equipment requirements and configurations, and produce installation estimates for new or varied works.
- Liaise with clients to agree on scope, site access, programme, enabling works, and transition plans.
- Attend pre-scope client site meetings and act as the technical advisory lead to define feasible solutions.
- Provide knowledge and advice regarding civil structures and suggest feasible solutions based on the scope of work.
- Oversee installation works, including managing the production and delivery of installation documentation, sub-contractor requirements, material control, site access, site installation and commissioning, handover, and as-built documentation.
- Coordinate with the Project Management department to ensure programme timelines and budget estimates are met.
- Promote and embed a collaborative installation ethos across all Cubic teams.
- Devise and implement improvement programmes for product development and technical transitions.
- Ensure effective communication with senior management on all technical issues within your remit.
- Participate in design support and provide input into product development.
- Perform other duties as reasonably assigned by your manager from time to time.
- Interpret engineering drawings and translate them into actionable process plans.
- Review and approve installation design documents as required.
- Support installation and commissioning teams during implementation phases as needed.
- Assist Installation Project Engineers when required.
- Liaise with the Installation team and subcontractors to complete project handover documentation.
- Ensure all work complies with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and other relevant regulations.
- Adhere to Cubic’s values and all company policies and procedures, including code of conduct, quality, security, occupational health, safety, and environmental policies.
- Proven experience in installation project delivery, implementation, commissioning, and client acceptance.
- Excellent team player with strong interpersonal skills.
- Experience in communication systems installation.
- Relevant technical supervisory experience, including sub-contractor management.
- Knowledge of IT network devices such as routers, switches, and Ethernet/fibre communication equipment.
- Experience producing RAMS/SSOW/WPP for Installation Engineers.
- Proficient in interpreting engineering documentation such as technical drawings, scopes of work, and engineering instructions.
- Ability to understand client requirements through discussions or site meetings.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and Teams.
- Familiarity with Network Rail standards and constraints.
- Knowledge of the London Underground and National Rail networks.
- Willingness to travel and stay away from home for short periods.
- Good verbal and written communication skills with the ability to foster positive relationships.
- A clean driving licence.
- Membership of a recognised professional institution (e.g., BCS/IET).
- Experience in data communication (Ethernet and Fibre Optics).
- Experience working with AFC systems.
- University degree in Electrical and Electronics, Computer Science, or a related IT/Engineering discipline.
- CCENT/CCNA Certification, CompTIA Network+, or currently working towards certification.
- Strong IT knowledge and understanding of network topologies.
- Solid engineering/technical skills and discipline.
- Good understanding of structural data cabling and associated limitations.
- Knowledge of Ethernet switches, routers, and networking technologies.
- Familiarity with cellular networks (4G, 4G Lite, 5G).
- Site Management Safety Training certification.
- Sentinel and CSCS or ECS certifications.
- IOSH qualification from the British Safety Council.
- Results-oriented with a proactive approach.
- Resilient and able to manage challenging situations.
- Good communication skills at all levels.
- Flexible with travel and working away from home.
- Willing to work unsocial hours, including occasional night shifts, as required.
