Paying up to £75,000I'm working with a global consultancy that is looking to appoint a Principal Electrical Design Engineer into its London Building Services team. This is a senior technical and leadership role, offering the chance to shape project delivery, mentor the next generation of engineers, and play a key role in driving growth across the business.The Opportunity:As a Principal Engineer, you'll combine design leadership with client-facing responsibilities, ensuring excellence across electrical design and wider MEP delivery. You'll take ownership of complex projects, provide strategic input, and act as a trusted advisor to clients.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the electrical discipline on major building services projects from feasibility through to delivery.
- Acting as a project director or technical lead on complex, multidisciplinary commissions.
- Building and maintaining strong client relationships, supporting business development and repeat work.
- Supervising, mentoring, and developing senior and junior engineers within the team.
- Reviewing design strategies, ensuring regulatory compliance, and embedding sustainable design solutions.
- Overseeing resource planning, design programmes, and project budgets.
- Contributing to bids, proposals, and presentations to support business growth.
- Extensive experience in electrical building services design, ideally across multiple sectors (commercial, residential, healthcare, education, mixed-use).
- Demonstrable track record of leading large projects and project teams.
- Degree in Building Services Engineering (or relevant discipline), with Chartered Engineer status (IET/CEng) or equivalent.
- Strong technical knowledge of UK regulations, codes, and design standards.
- Proficiency in electrical design software, with familiarity in RevitMEP or other 3D design tools.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence and engage clients at senior level.
- A collaborative, leadership-focused mindset with the ability to inspire teams.
- Low voltage distribution, standby generation & UPS systems.
- Cable and lighting calculations (software and by hand).
- Fire alarms, security, and access control systems.
