- Leadership and Functional Management of the HVDC Systems Design team in UK.
- Ensure a safe working environment for the team - Identify and evaluate EHS risks in own area and implement practical safety measures.
- Ensure Delivery of HVDC System Design teams’ scope is in line with plan (On Time Delivery - OTD) and budget.
- Ensure correct level of Quality of the teams’ deliverables (documentation & engineering product).
- Planning of the teams scope of work and setting of priorities.
- Ensure best practice processes and tools for Systems teamwork scope and audit that processes are being followed.
- Ensure a ‘Lean’ approach and culture within the team and drive the team to committed cost and time savings.
- Recruitment, development and people review for the team.
- Lead the capture, implementation, and validation of project requirements.
- Effectively communicates technical issues throughout the organization.
- Develop and maintain KPIs for the team.
- Lead team in solving challenging technical issues in HVDC System Design.
- Proactive interaction with other engineering departments and regions for product definition.
- Foster an environment of knowledge sharing and mentoring within the team.
- The candidate will preferably be educated to degree level in a related Engineering or Science subject and be able to demonstrate they have the in-depth experience and proven abilities to perform the role.
- Candidates with significant proven experience in the design and/or development of HVDC HV Equipment and system engineering studies is preferred covering both LCC and VSC technology solutions.
- Leadership and management of an engineering team.
- Management of technical issues both internally and with client.
- Strong integration with other stakeholders.
- An enquiring mind and desire to learn new skills and a willingness to share the knowledge are essential qualities.
- Educated to degree level in Electrical Engineering or equivalent degree.
- Take a pro-active approach to ensuring Health & Safety is paramount, including conducting Risk Assessments.
- EHS compliance capability.
- Prior experience of people management.
- Prior experience of electrical transmission industry.
- Knowledge of Equipment Specification & report checking and approving.
- Knowledge of power system and harmonic studies.
- Knowledge of assessing supplier technical offers, Type Test witnessing and equipment installation.
- Requirements capture, compliance and Verification & Validation experience.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Excellent organisation and leadership skills.
- Attention to process and detail to ensure quality of teams deliverables.
- Accurate planning and drive to achieve on time delivery.
- Be able to work both independently and as part of a team.
