- Team Leadership: Supervise and coordinate day-to-day activities of the protection design team, providing both technical guidance and resource planning.
- Technical Oversight: Ensure protection settings, schematics, and design documentation meet project specifications and relevant industry standards.
- Project Delivery Support: Collaborate with project managers and technical leads to ensure protection deliverables are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality.
- Interface with SCADA Team: Maintain alignment with the SCADA team and other functions to ensure seamless system integration and consistency in project delivery.
- Customer Focus: Represent the protection team in technical meetings with customers, particularly National Grid and SSEN, to validate schemes and resolve issues.
- Quality Assurance: Review and approve technical documentation, ensuring compliance with internal processes and customer expectations.
- Mentorship & Development: Support the development of junior engineers through coaching, on-the-job training, and knowledge sharing.
- Resource Management: Monitor team workload and support the Engineering Manager in resource allocation and recruitment planning.
- Standardisation & Best Practices: Contribute to the development and implementation of standard designs, tools, and templates to drive efficiency and consistency.
- Education: BSc. in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
- Experience: advanced and demonstrated experience in protection and control engineering, with demonstrated leadership or mentorship responsibilities.
- Technical Skills: Significant knowledge of protection schemes and panel design, relay configuration, and substation automation.
- Familiarity with Standards: Good understanding of National Grid and SSEN design requirements and specifications.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to lead meetings and collaborate across departments.
- Flexibility: Willingness to occasionally travel to customer or site locations as required.
- Prior experience working on projects for National Grid, SSEN, or other UK transmission/distribution operators.
- Familiarity with GE protection relays and Grid Automation platforms.
- Significant organisational and problem-solving skills with a proactive mindset.
- Ability to work in a dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities.
