
Children's Speech and Language Therapist including EDS- Neonates

- To provide, as an autonomous practitioner, assessment, diagnosis, and evidence-based treatment for service users within a specialist area, to work in partnership with other practitioners and refer on to other health, education, and social care providers as appropriate.
- To work as a member of the community service within early years and/or specialist education settings, including, where required in-reaching to the local children's ward, neonatal unit, and specialist care settings, contributing to their development.
- To provide multidisciplinary functions within the post holders sphere of competence to service users across these and mainstream education settings.
- To develop the post holders' own professional practice by keeping up to date with clinical developments and responding to available evidence.
- To provide specialist advice, education, and training in the specialist area.
- Knowledge of Relevant speech, language, communication and dysphagia assessments, interventions, and techniques how to evaluate their relevance and effectiveness.
- Knowledge of National policies and procedures relevant to Children's Speech and Language Therapy and to Children and Young People's Education.
- Knowledge of Safeguarding procedures and their implementation in practice.
- Knowledge of nationally recognised training and coaching packages of care for parents and other professionals working with children with SLCN.
- An ongoing awareness of recent developments in practice and research including National guidance.
- Understanding of clinical governance and risk management and their implications for the service.
- Excellent organisation, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills for a wide audience of children and adults.
- Excellent analytical and reflective skills.
- Highly developed auditory and perceptual skills.
- Show competency in the use of relevant IT tools including those appropriate for clinical use.
- Specifically for Highly Specialist SLT in neonatal care.
- Awareness and knowledge of neonatal specific evidence base and supporting approaches such as baby friendly initiative and trauma informed care.
- To have skills and knowledge in neuroprotective and developmental care and family integrated care to support neonates and their parents/carers.
- Holds recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree or equivalent.
- Holds Health Professions Council licence to practice as a Speech and Language Therapist.
- Registered Member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists.
- Evidence of completion of relevant short courses and continuing professional development in this specialist area.
- Holds post-graduate qualification in paediatric dysphagia or is able to participate and complete a post graduate qualification in paediatric dysphagia
- Experience at post-graduate level with a range of speech, language communication difficulties in children.
- Significant experience of working with children and young people with a range of special educational needs.
- Experience at post-graduate level of working in multidisciplinary teams to assess the needs of children and families.
- Experience at post-graduate level of using a range of assessments and assessment processes.
- Experience at post-graduate level of delivering and evaluating relevant training and coaching programmes.
- Experience of data gathering methodology and participation in clinical audit.
- Experience in developing, programming, and evaluating the use of low- and high-tech communication aids.
- Able to meet travel requirements of the job
