We invite applications for a fixed term 12-month post in General Paediatrics with Respiratory interest at University Hospitals Birmingham.The post is to start as soon as we can recruit and will be principally based at Birmingham Heartlands Hospital, with the expectation that the appointee work across sites, at Good Hope Hospital and may be required to undertake outpatient work at Solihull Hospital. The Job Plan will be annualised over a 42-week working year and comprise of an average of 8 programmed activities per weekSpeciality interest will be in respiratory medicine.The post will comprise of clinical activity in asthma and respiratory care.Respiratory training at the level of GRID or SPIN is not essential.The appointee will be supported by the respiratory consultant team and MDT and encouraged to take up opportunities for development in this area.They will be expected to attend the weekly respiratory MDT meetings during non-acute weeks.The UHB Paediatric department is one of the largest in the West Midlands area serving a diverse population. We provide emergency and acute inpatient care to children and young people living across East Birmingham, Solihull, North Birmingham, Sutton Coldfield, South Staffordshire and surrounding areas served by Heartlands and Good Hope sites.Main duties of the jobWe have a is a separate Designated Neonatal Intensive Care Unit within the West Midlands Perinatal Network (WMPN) which provides medical care for babies of all gestations and is the designated Cooling centre for the Network. There are over 6500 deliveries each year on at Heartlands site, and our NICU provides intensive and high dependency care required of all the 10,000 babies born within all sites of the Trust each year.Distribution of PAsIt is anticipated that for this fixed term consultant post, the split of programmed activities will be 7.0 PAs assigned to DCC activity and 1.0 PAs to SPA work depending on the details of the job and the role asked of the consultant.A detailed job plan will be confirmed after appointment between the appointee and Clinical Service Lead for Paediatrics. You will be directly involved in the stabilisation of sick children requiring intensive care transfer.*We provide clinical support and access to HDU and inpatient care for sick and complex children and those requiring long stay admission from the Childrens Assessment Unit at Good Hope Hospital. There is integration and co-operation between consultant and nursing teams across sites with frequent transfer of patients to Heartlands from Good Hope Site
  • On call frequency will be 1:11. This will require onsite presence between 16:30-21:00 hours on weekdays and 08:30-15:30 hours on Bank Holidays and weekends.
*Consultants work a Consultant of the Week pattern covering HDU and inpatient ward as 1st on call or the Paediatric Assessment Unit ambulatory and short stay admissions as 2nd on. The daytime weekday cover will be from 08:30-17:00*We provide support and medical shared care with general surgical specialties (ENT, general surgery, T&O), mental health admissions and partners in the community.
