Growing together.We are excited to share that we are looking for a Chief Development Officer to join our team based in London.The role will be pivotal in leading our ideation and business planning and Business Development team. You will be instrumental in identifying new market opportunities and driving the innovation process from ideation to business case development.Reporting into our Optum UK CEO, you will form part of our leadership team, where you will shape and execute strategies that enable our clients to deliver more efficient, patient-centered, and digitally-enabled services.It is an outstanding opportunity for you to evolve, influence and drive forward strategies that in turn drive beneficial outcomes for our customers.What you'll doWe operate in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment and the ability to adapt quickly is key.You will lead the identification and pursuit of new commercial opportunities across the UK health and care markets. As an innovative leader, you will hold responsibility for inorganic growth initiatives and long-term business planning whilst shaping go-to-market strategies for new products and services.You will build trusted relationships with your peers and teams across Optum and UHG, whilst representing the company in high-level engagements with external stakeholders, including regulators, industry organisations and health and care leaders.Other key responsibilities and accountabilities will include;Act as a source of key strategic input across our businessCollaborate with our senior team to shape and oversee the strategy for how Optum engages with and develops business with DHSC/ NHSE, devolved and other government departmentsLead the development of multi-year strategic and commercial plans in collaboration with the executive teamLead our Business Development team, defining and owning our UK business processes and key KPI'sOversee our relationship with senior stakeholders within the Government and NHS national bodies ensuring that customers' strategy and priorities are understoodIdentify and evaluate potential acquisition, investment, and partnership opportunities aligned with strategic objectivesWho you'll beExperience of operating at Leadership level is essential to enable you to succeed in this role, along with the ability to combine strategic vision with practical delivery experience. You will demonstrate a sophisticated understanding of the NHS landscape, system-level reform and healthcare technology.The ability to build trusted and credible relationships with your peers and wider teams across the organisation is essential, you will actively foster collaborative relationships with external partners.Other useful skills and experience include:Previous experience in business development, strategy or innovation roles within healthcare, health tech or life sciencesDeep understanding of the UK healthcare system, including NHS structures, procurement pathways, and digital health policyProven track record of launching new products and services, securing strategic partnershipsProven commercial acumen, analytical thinking and stakeholder management skillsFamiliarity with agile innovation methodologies (e.g. design thinking, lean startup, discovery sprints)At UnitedHealth Group, our mission is to help people live healthier lives and make the health system work better for everyone.
