DepartmentWe are seeking to appoint a full-time Research Trainee to join an applied social care research group – the Older Adults’ Social Care Research (OSCaR) group in the School for Business and Society. We are looking for a highly motivated Research Trainee with excellent organisational skills who is interested in pursuing a future in career in social care research. The OSCaR Group is a leading centre for social care research and is currently the national lead for the NIHR School for Social Care Research, the NIHR Research Support Service – Specialist Centre for Social Care (York and partners), and a range of other applied social care projects including a programme grant focussing on assistive technologies to support bathing for older adults.RoleThe post holder will work across a range of social care studies, under the supervision of the project leads and other researchers. They will develop skills in research methods, including literature searches, secondary analysis, recruitment of participants into studies and a range of data collection methods. They will also assist in preparing plain English summaries, project outputs including publications and presentations, and creating resources for older people, carers and people supporting them. The post holder will be an excellent communicator and sensitive to the needs of older people in care settings, including those living with dementia.Skills, Experience & Qualifications needed:Applicants should:
  • Be educated to degree level in a subject related to health, social care or a social science-related area
  • Have knowledge of older people’s care and knowledge of people living with dementia
  • Have a basic knowledge of research techniques and methods
  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills
