- Acting as the technical authority for manufacturing processes.
- Providing Design for Manufacturing (DFM) feedback to R&D using formal methods for New Product Development (NPD), including Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA).
- Ensuring completion of Pre-Production Readiness/NPI tasks in line with KPIs.
- Utilising Lean methodologies to identify and implement best practice process improvements across production operations, leading to cost reduction, increased productivity, and reduced cycle times while maintaining design integrity and build quality.
- Defining, creating, and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) reflecting best practice build improvements.
- Conducting process trials, providing formal report-outs, and making recommendations.
- Providing hands-on manufacturing support with process fault finding and production escalations, both electrical and mechanical.
- Supporting Production Change Control processes (Specification Amendments, Modifications, Engineering Change Notices, Deviations, etc.).
- Leading and supporting complex problem-solving initiatives using A3, 8D, and Lean Six Sigma methodologies.
- Assessing and ensuring availability of all necessary tooling, hand tools, handling equipment, patterns, jigs, gauges, and measuring devices for production readiness.
- Creating and maintaining facility layouts for production lines and workstations using CAD packages, including current and future state layouts.
- Leading and supporting Non-Conformance Investigation (NCI) projects from business case justifications to project sign-offs.
- Determining new material and process information required in line with current and future legislative and environmental requirements.
- Using Safety Data Sheets (SDS) to create usage plans, supporting the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) assessment process.
- Maintaining awareness of innovation and new technologies relevant to the bus industry.
- Strong mechanical and electrical engineering technical competency, ideally in both areas.
- Experience with key manufacturing processes including assembly, bonding, and fixings.
- Proficiency in CAD packages such as Solid Edge, Teamcenter, and AutoCAD LT, as well as engineering drawings.
- Demonstrable success in a similar role with a track record of achievements.
- Experience in New Product Introduction (NPI) Manufacturing Engineering, including Pre-Production Readiness, CapEx, daily problem-solving, data analysis, and managing changes into production operations.
- Project management experience.
- Problem-solving skills using structured methodologies such as A3, 8D, and Lean Six Sigma.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders, including production operations.
- Change management skills to drive continuous improvement in manufacturing processes.
- Willingness to meet deadlines, work outside core hours, and undertake offsite visits as required.
- High IT literacy, particularly in Microsoft Office Excel, PowerPoint, and Word, as well as QMS and ERP systems.
