- Explore and initiate innovative ways of collaborating with the multi-disciplinary team to continuously improve the care of emergency cancer patients that attend hospitals.
- To support practice and in-business continuity work at an advanced, highly specialist level demonstrating in-depth knowledge and competence in all aspects of cancer and encompassing advanced assessment and clinical management skills that are evidence based.
- Demonstrate high levels of interpersonal and specialist technical skills in managing teams and collaborating with other ACPs when caring for patients with Acute Oncology needs.
- Discuss and reflect on complex case management.
- To use highly developed and specialist knowledge to advise other staff on the investigations and treatment required by cancer patients during their emergency admission.
- To use advanced communication skills in the management of Acute Oncology team to support the team to manage delivering complex information to patient/carers that facilitate their understanding to assist them in decision making processes.
- Collaborate with nurses and AHPs in general ward areas supporting their educational needs in developing their skills in caring for patients with acute oncology needs, particularly when communicating sensitive issues.
- Assessment and management of patients presenting with toxicities or complications of cancer or treatment.
- Physical assessment, formation of differential diagnoses and plan for treatment of cancer patients in SDEC and SACT unit.
- To be available to all members of the multi-disciplinary team to provide expert advice on all matters pertaining to acute oncology issues and presentations.
- To lead and support all professionals in co-ordinating the patient journey and ensure high standards of written and verbal advice is available to patients, relatives, carers, the MDT, and external stakeholders.
- To function as a change agent particularly with regard to the introduction of evidence-based practice where appropriate, network and national policy
- To provide support for the Acute Oncology CNS teams across all four sites,offering specialist clinical advice and to be responsible for, assist in and record their development and training.
- Utilise national and local policies and initiatives that impact on the patients and healthcare workers and implements these into local specialist practice.
- Develop and implement changes to policies and guidelines in specialist field of practice.
- Work collaboratively with Cancer Networks in moving the complex acute oncology agenda forward.
- Initiate and lead the audit agenda in Acute Oncology.
- Lead the development of robust data collection.
- Support with and lead on education, both within oncology and within the wider AHP and medical workforce.
