ARTS229525INTERNAL VACANCYThis vacancy is open to employees of the University of Nottingham only.The Department of Classics and Archaeology is looking for a Post-graduate Teaching Assistant (PGTA) for the academic year 2025-2026. Please note, we can only accept applicants whose supervisors (i.e., lead or second) are based in the Department of Classics and Archaeology.The purpose of the role is to support teaching and learning in our modules, working with the academic module convenor(s) through the delivery of small group teaching for students taking CLAR1014 – Interpreting Ancient History, in Semesters 1 and 2, contract to start mid-September.This is a Part-Time, FTC position funded until 19-Jun-2026.Workload details:
  • Delivery of 8 1-hour seminars to 4 seminar groups
  • Marking 50 2,000-word essays (semester 1)
  • Marking 50 exam scripts for a 2-hour in-person exam (semester 2)
  • 20 office hours
Seminar dates are still to be confirmed with timetabling. You will be provided with guidance for each seminar and before the assessment period by the module convenor.Before applying, please ensure you have passed your first progression review and are in good standing on your PhD, including having your supervisor's approval to apply. Evidence of this must be attached to your application as ‘Requested Documentation’ from your doctorial supervisor.If you have previously completed Preparing to Teach in Higher Education training, or the new Discovering Teaching Pathway training, evidence of this should be attached to your application as ‘Requested Documentation’. The Discovering Teaching Pathway training can be undertaken post appointment if necessary and you will be paid for the time taken to complete this.
