We are looking for a part-time technical support officer to join the small team of staff responsible for administration in Building Control, helping the smooth delivery of the service and allowing the team to ensure that building works in the borough are carried out in a safe, compliant, energy efficient and accessible manner.What it’s like working in our team…In Building Control you will work with and respond to queries from a variety of stakeholders, from domestic clients to architects and engineers, often collaborating with internal colleagues in associated services in Land Charges, Planning, Highways and Environmental Health.This role provides the essential support required to a team of Registered Building Inspectors to enable the delivery of the Building Control service in an efficient, customer focused manner in compliance with statutory requirements and time limits. In doing so, this ensures the safety of people living in and using buildings in our borough.You will be supported to carry out the following duties, responsibilities and training…
  • Providing the initial contact and support service for internal and external customers, providing advice in response to a range of technical, legal and regulatory queries.
  • Checking information and entering data into back-office systems, particularly in relation to the registering and processing of Building Regulations applications, and to run associated reports as may be necessary or required.
  • Provision of technical administrative support including typing, computer input support, training in software use and report generation, to meet performance indicators.
  • Ensuring the efficient processing of applications and the correct calculation of charges levied. This will involve the interpretation of construction plans and specifications.
  • To assist with the development and use of the IT administration software.

What we’re looking for...The role forms the front line of our customer focused service, so in addition to efficient administration skills, having a customer focussed attitude and pleasant telephone manner is essential. Previous experience of Building Control is not essential.This role is being offered on a part-time basis of 25 hours per week, worked over 5 days.
