Location: Peterborough – Hybrid (days required can be discussed)Rate: £500 – £550 / daySalary: Negotiable depending on experienceAbout the Role:Join the award-winning @one Alliance, a progressive and collaborative delivery partnership in the water sector. As a Design Manager, you’ll lead the development and delivery of innovative, value-driven design solutions for non-infrastructure water projects such as treatment works, pumping stations, and groundwater abstraction schemes.You’ll oversee a multi-disciplinary design team, working closely with internal technical specialists and external suppliers to produce integrated, sustainable designs that support project affordability, reduce carbon, and enhance natural capital.Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the development and management of Engineering Project Plans (scope, schedule, cost, risk, and resources)
- Managing the performance and development of a high-performing design team
- Ensuring quality assurance and right-first-time design principles across all outputs
- Coordinating internal discipline leads and external suppliers to deliver integrated solutions
- Collaborating with project functions (e.g. planning, procurement, construction) to drive efficient delivery
- Supporting programme milestones and driving design affordability and sustainability
- Fulfilling CDM responsibilities, including design risk assessments and H&S documentation
- Promoting innovation, digital design tools, and continuous improvement
- Degree-qualified in Engineering or related field (preferred)
- Chartered or working towards chartered status
- Strong experience managing design delivery and multi-disciplinary teams
- Confident in supplier coordination, design integration, and project risk management
- Experience in a Design & Build environment (beneficial but not essential)
- Committed to innovation, sustainability, and collaborative delivery
- Effective leader with strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
