
Consultant Haematologist

- To be an active member of the clinical and laboratory haematology services and help deliver excellence in clinical care and diagnostics.
- To contribute to high quality, effective, evidence-based services for inpatient, outpatients and day care, providing specialist advice and a referral service for other clinicians in the Trust
- To undertake administrative duties associated with the care of patients and the running of clinics or departments.
- To help provide triaging/vetting of referrals and advice and guidance to local GPs.
- To participate in the consultant on-call rota (1:5) and provide cover for colleagues in time of absence and leave when required. On-call is partially supported by a haematology specialist registrar.
- Leadership, development and organisation of the services in the charge of the post holder in line with the Trust/Divisional business plans.

- MBBS or equivalent. MRCP and FRCPath or equivalent.Full and Specialist registration in haematology (with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC), or be eligible for registration within six months of interview.
- Higher academic qualification (e.g. MSc. Or MD).
- Holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT),or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview. Applicants that are non-UK trained, will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT
- Experience and expertise in the diagnosis and management of haematological benign and malignant haematological disorders.
- Experience and competence in routine laboratory haematology, including bone marrow reporting
- Ability to offer expert clinical opinion in emergency and elective aspects of haematology taking responsibility for clinical decisions.
- Ability to perform within multidisciplinary team.
- A subspeciality interest in the management of benign and/or an area of lymphoma or myeloid haematological disorders
- Evidence of an understanding of the structure of the NHS, and how it works.
- Evidence of recent CME/ reasonable training progression.
- Management course completed / experience.
- Demonstrate knowledge and experience of audit
- Understanding of Quality Improvement; how to develop and deliver a quality service.
- Departmental management experience.
- Experience of running departmental rota(s).
- Delivery of and/or ability to apply research outcomes to clinical problems.
- Ability to educate medical, nursing and laboratory staff. Able to supervise junior staff and carry out educational and or clinical supervision.
- Understanding of and willingness to be involved in delivery of research activity.
- Delivery of formal undergraduate and / or postgraduate teaching. Demonstration of involvement in clinical management
- Track record in research with publications in peer reviewed journal(s).
- Good written and verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with patients, colleagues and staff at all levels
- Ability to work as part of a team, and individually as necessary. Ability to speak English as necessary to undertake the role.
- Ability to prioritise, organise and manage workload. Commitment to Continuing Medical Education.
- Ability to motivate and develop the multidisciplinary team, balancing departmental and personal objectives.
- Willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities at local, regional or national levels.
