A teaching assistant is needed for a special educational needs (SEN) school in Portsmouth for nursery and primary school students aged 3-11.As a teaching assistant, you will support students with autistic spectrum disorder (ASD) who may have complex needs and learning difficulties.This school is easily accessible from around Portsmouth, with great transport links.Being a teaching assistant at this school, you will become a part of a highly supportive team with exceptional senior leadership and fantastic resources.Willingness to do personal care is preferred.Your responsibilities as a teaching assistant may include:
  • As a Teaching Assistant you will be working with and supporting students with ASD.
  • As a teaching Assistant you will be providing academic support, either one-on-one or in a small group.
  • As a Teaching Assistant you will be promoting a positive and inclusive classroom culture and providing emotional support when needed.
  • As a Teaching Assistant you will be implementing positive behaviour management strategies which may include physical restraints, to maintain a safe learning environment.
  • As a Teaching Assistant you will be using positive reinforcement techniques to encourage focus and self-control and assisting teachers with implementing a Positive Behaviour Support framework.
  • As a Teaching Assisting you will be assistning teachers with alternative teaching methods, such Lego therapy to encourage joint working and communication skills, or intensive interaction sessions to help pupils develop attention and interaction skills.
  • As a Teaching Assistant you will be aware of safeguarding policies and procedures to ensure the safety and well-being of students.
To be a teaching assistant, you will need:
  • The right to work in the UK.
  • A clear and up-to-date DBS
  • Experience working as a Teacher in a UK school.
  • A passion to support students with ASD and a keen interest in child development.
