An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Pharmacy Technician to join our friendly, innovative, expanding and forward thinking team. We serve a population of over 49000 in four locations with 6 practice premises, two are semi-rural locations on the edge of the Cotswolds, one in the centre of Old Town, Swindon and Taw Hill in North Swindon, Tadpole Surgery in Tadpole Garden Village and Moredon Surgery in the centre of North Swindon. We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic Pharmacy Technician for 37.5 hours per week to join our team as we continue to expand the practice.Main duties of the jobThe pharmacy technician will support the role of the pharmacist to deliver the Clinical Pharmacy in General Practice model of care. The purpose of the role is to lead improvements to maximise safe, cost effective best practice in prescribing to improve the quality of patient care. The post holder will help patients to get the best from their medicines by switching medications to agreed and approved protocols, improving repeat prescribing processes in general practices, including promotion of repeat dispensing and online ordering, minimising clinical risk and aiming to reduce wasted medicinesMain duties of the jobKey Responsibilities:Medicines Optimisation & Patient CareSupport the repeat prescribing process, ensuring compliance with practice protocols and NHS guidelines.Conduct medication reconciliation for patients following hospital discharge.Provide guidance to patients on the safe and effective use of medicines, including inhaler techniques and adherence support.Assist in medication reviews, highlighting concerns to the Clinical Pharmacist or GP.Promote cost-effective prescribing by reviewing prescribing trends and identifying areas for improvement.Clinical Governance & Quality ImprovementSupport initiatives to improve medicines safety and reduce waste.Assist in the implementation of prescribing policies and guidelines.Participate in audits and quality improvement projects to enhance medication safety.Ensure compliance with national and local prescribing guidelines.Operational & Digital SupportMaintain accurate and up-to-date patient medication records using electronic prescribing systems e.g., EMIS, SystmOne.Assist in processing and reviewing prescription requests to improve workflow efficiency.Help manage drug recalls, safety alerts, and stock control within the practice.Training & DevelopmentProvide training and support to practice staff on medicines-related topics.Support patients in self-management of their medication through education and guidance.About usWestrop Medical Practice serves a population of over 49,000 in six locations, three are semi-rural locations on the edge of the Cotswolds, one in the centre of Old Town and two in North Swindon.Westrop Medical Practice's mission is to be a national exemplar for primary care provision.   • BTEC/NVQ level 3 or equivalent in pharmaceutical sciences Professional registration with GPhC Evidence of continued professional development (CPD) Experience of working as a qualified, registered pharmacy technician in primary care, community or hospital pharmacy

  • Desirable Qualifications & Experience:
  • Additional qualifications in medicines management or technician-led medication reviews.
  • Experience using EMIS, SystmOne, or similar primary care clinical systems.
  • Understanding of NHS prescribing policies, formularies, and medicines safety initiatives.
  • Experience working alongside GPs, nurses, and pharmacists in a patient-facing role
