An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Clinical Nurse Specialist in the Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) service at Birmingham Children's Hospital. This post is a fixed term post for 12 months.The Band 6 EB Nurse will play an active part in participating in defining, developing and delivering the specialist nursing provision and co-ordination of multidisciplinary care for children with EB, both within the hospital setting and the community for patients mainly within the Midlands, North of England and North Wales.The post holder will work in the hospital setting at Birmingham Children's Hospital and also in the community, this will include Multidisciplinary and Nurse led outpatient appointments, supporting patients, parents and staff when a child or young person needs a surgical procedure, leading or assisting with dressing changes and providing outreach hospital and home visits across the north of England and North Wales.Main duties of the jobThe post holder will enable EB patients and their families to receive expert, evidence-based care in a safe and timely manner by means of partnership with families, other carers and the multidisciplinary team.Be part of a service which provides parity of service for all EB patients in the UK in conjunction with other EB NHS England Highly Specialised funded services and DEBRA, the charity that supports people living with EB and their families.To advise and direct the management of the newborn while awaiting diagnostic results, being available to provide counselling and support when the diagnosis/prognosis is known.The post holder will be able to co-ordinate clinics and outpatient care at BCH, liaising with multidisciplinary teams, local hospitals, and community teams to effect best possible clinical outcomes and provide a service which is flexible and responsive to the needs of patients and their families.To have expert knowledge of EB and how to give optimum care to patients will be disseminated to other trusts and health-care professionals involved with EB patients in the Midlands and the North of the country.About usBirmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust is the first of its type in the UK.
