  • This role provides the opportunity for hybrid working, allowing you to work either from home, subject to managerial approval, or from County Hall, Taunton.
  • 30 days' annual leave (in addition to bank holidays).
  • The contract offered is permanent and full-time (37 hours per week), with occasional requirements for evening/weekend work to meet project deadlines.
What will I be doing?We're working to improve the lives of people in Somerset - and you'll be a key part of that. As a Parking Services Manager you will be the lead and responsible officer for overseeing the planning, co-ordination, enforcement, and management of all on and off-street parking, including over 220 council owned car parks and parking restrictions on roads exceeding 6,000km across the whole of the Somerset Council area.Your day-to-day work will involve:
  • The development of new parking solutions, balancing legal obligations, community expectations, safety requirements and commercial viability.
  • Developing policy and solutions that involve influencing a range of internal and external parties to change current approaches and agree new courses of action.
  • Overseeing all parking related enquiries from the public, members and stakeholders etc, ensuring the Councils response is realistic, appropriate and meets agreed objectives - protecting the councils reputation.
  • Ensuring the Parking Services work in partnership and integrates with other Council services, such as the community, wider Traffic Management and highways and planning teams.

But it will really help if you:
  • A degree in a related field such as public administration, law enforcement, or transport management, or equivalent extensive experience.
  • Strong leadership skills with a positive, committed and adaptable approach.
  • Significant operational and managerial experience of the delivery of local authority parking services.
  • Experience of designing and implementing service transformation processes to deliver service change and improvement.
  • Sound analysis and decision-making in dealing with complex service delivery and/or policy development matters.
