Please do not apply if you do not have a current contract of employment with the University.Internal Applicants Only - Learning DesignerThe Cardiff Learning and Teaching Academy is offering an exciting opportunity to join its Digital Education Team.As part of a team of learning designers and digital learning professionals working with learning and teaching teams across the University, you will play a key role in enhancing teaching and learning at Cardiff and delivering sustainable improvements to the student experience. You will be part of a team responsible for delivering the LTA Learning Design Service to support development of a number of taught programmes across the University with a specific focus on supporting work within a single College.This role will involve:
  • Providing expert guidance, advice and support to the University's Colleges, Academic Schools and Professional Services on the design, development and implementation of modules including digital learning activities, materials, and resources to enhance the student learning experience.
  • Supporting Learning Design for priority areas or programmes within a College with a focus on module level learning design and effective pedagogy. This may include strategically important programmes including in relation to Flexible Lifelong Learning and transnational education.
  • Offering expert pedagogical advice and guidance on digital learning practices, processes and tools underpinned by learning design approaches. You will support academic staff, professional services staff, and colleagues in the Academy to enhance curricula and ensure an excellent learning experience for students.
  • As part of the Digital Education Team, you will also lead and/or support a series of projects and initiatives that are aligned to University and College priorities and contribute to the delivery of learning and teaching and student experience related aspects of the University Strategy, “Our Future Together”.
  • Delivering services underpinned by consideration of digital accessibility requirements, inclusive education and good practice.
  • Actively contributing to a community of practice focused on Digital Education Development within the Digital Education Team, sharing and developing skills and knowledge and good practice sharing.
This post is an open-ended, full-time role (35 hours per week).Salary: £40,497 - £ 45,413 per annum (Grade 6). Appointments would usually be at the bottom of the grade.Important note:

  • Provide professional advice and guidance on Learning Design and Digital Education processes and procedures to academic and professional services colleagues, that will have institute wide impacts, using judgement and creativity to suggest the most appropriate course of action where appropriate, and ensuring complex and conceptual issues are understood.
  • Provide expert Learning Design support to Schools within one College as part of a multifunctional team. Working in partnership with academic colleagues and teams across the LTA to define and plan how learning will be supported within each course, module or unit.
  • Take a lead on delivering key aspects of the LTA's Learning Design Service, with a focus on delivering a holistic learning design approach to pedagogic planning at a module or programme level, supporting programmes and/or modules within one College. Working in partnership with academic colleagues to enhance the student learning experience from inception to final delivery and evaluation.
  • Provide expert pedagogical learning design advice, guidance and support on learning and teaching practices, processes and tools, to academic staff, professional services staff, and colleagues in the Learning and Teaching Academy to enhance curricula and ensure an excellent learning experience for students.
  • Take responsibility for resolving issues independently within Learning Design where they fall within set role objectives
  • Investigate and analyse specific issues within Module and Learning Design across different disciplines, creating bespoke support plans, supported by advances within learning design, digital education and Learning and Teaching developments across the HE sector.
  • Ensure that the Learning Design Service is delivered to programmes and Schools within one College which have been identified as strategic priorities, proactively changing the delivery according to customer requirements.
  • Actively engage in internal and external networks, including communities of practice in Learning Design.
  • Gather and analyse data to inform decisions, establishing basic trends and patterns in data and creating reports as appropriate
  • Establish working relationships with key contacts, developing appropriate communication links within the LTA and with the University's Schools and Professional services teams and outside bodies.
  • Contribute to and lead or coordinate, as required, small scale projects from colleagues across the LTA to deliver University-wide projects and objectives
  • Design, deliver, and evaluate high quality online resources such as guides, training materials, case studies and deliver continuing professional development (CPD) opportunities to staff across the University on topics relating to Learning Design and digital education.
  • Undertake training and mentorship of others within the Learning and Teaching Academy and deliver training for staff in the wider University, and continually monitor developments and innovations related to effective and innovative digital learning practices and tools.

  • Able to demonstrate professional knowledge applied to a Learning Design Service to give advice and guidance to colleagues, influencing their practice and contributing to the delivery of strategic objectives.
  • Proven experience of developing and delivering high-quality development opportunities and resources including guides, resources and workshops on themes relating to Learning Design for a range of individuals and groups.
  • Proven ability to communicate conceptually detailed and complex information effectively and professionally with a wide range of people including supporting subject-matter experts designing online or blended courses.
